Clacton businessmen launch trusted traders

A PAIR of bonafide tradesmen have launched a 'Google for traders' to protect the public against rogues.
Malcolm Everitt, 43, and Bradley Miller, 42, of Clacton, want to renew customer's faith in traders and at the same time boost the local economy.
Their joint venture, Trusted Traders Tendring, has been ten months in the making and will give workmen a stamp of approval plus valuable business support.
After becoming frustrated by the rotten apples of the industry damaging the reputation of the majority, the business owners decided to take action.
Mr Everitt said: "In Clacton there's a lot of rogue traders who aren't using the correct equipment or have the wrong insurance, or aren't up on regulations and we thought something needed to be done in Tendring because there are lots of honest traders who aren't getting recognition."
"It acts as an accreditation for Tendring, which is important, and gives customers peace of mind but also promotes regional businesses to keep the work in Tendring".
"Traders are fully vetted, we get details like the expiry date of their insurances and qualifications, and then they sign a mission statement which acts as a standard of practice they abide to when dealing with customers."
Since launching the TTT facebook page, 20 traders have registered with the organisation and the partners expect the number to more than double by the end of February.
As well as a year's worth of advertising, individuals will receive regular web analytics data, vehicle signage plus a registration number and i.d badge for jobs.
Customers will be able to contact traders through their own micro-website.
He said: "We're now in the process of the website being built and are aiming for a maximum of three clicks to get the customer to the trader."
"People want value for money but also a service that's fit for purpose."
"Myself and Bradley aren't taking any money from this for the first year, it will be ploughed back into marketing which we know we have to do for the venture to succeed."
The public response so far has been positive with Kevin Barnes, director of Tendring Community Business Magazine, also endorsing the association.
In November 2015, Essex Police and Trading Standards began a crackdown on rogue traders after an 80-year-old Clacton man was conned into spending thousands of pounds for work to his home.
