Regular visitors to the HSP website will be aware that we are committed to the sale of high quality genuine parts. All of our team members fully appreciate the importance of distributing genuine parts as an assurance of safety and reliability for our customers. Unfortunately there are a number of unscrupulous online sellers who do not share our customer focus. They continue to sell cheap replica parts, which pose a danger to the general public.
Fortunately there have been some positive steps to regulate the industry and ensure that genuine spares are being sold. The heating and hot water council (HHIC) have emphasised the gas fitters throughout the United Kingdom have a responsibility to install genuine spares.
Roger Webb, the Director of HHIC said, “unfortunately just like cigarettes and handbags there are a lot of heating spares that are fake with many carrying a CE mark and claiming to be an exact replica of the manufacturer's own part. But these fakes won't have been through the rigorous testing process or be made of the correct material; which at best invalidates the boiler warranty or at worst they could be dangerous.” “If a problem occurs as a result of using them the installer is liable. Heating engineers are liable for all the work they carry out and this liability extends to any replacement parts they purchase and fit.” “So we are calling on all installers to stay ’fake free’ this winter and take action by calling the local Trading Standards office if they come across any fake heating components.
A spares merchant would have little difficulty setting up a website and starting to trade replica parts within as little as 24 hours. It’s actually worth asking who is enabling the creation of these dodgy websites. The early indications don't look good and it appears that some of the main spares merchants could be involved.
HSP are continuing to investigate problems in the heating spares industry. We are aware some boiler spares sold on eBay appear stolen from companies and gas engineers who have taken stock parts and never fitted them. An example case involved Chris Mclean. He assumed ownership of EON breakdown division and then went on to launch Home Energy Services. HSP contact him. explained, we were dealing with a gas engineer from is company, who offered us £10.000 worth of parts for a cash payment of £2000.
The HSP fully support the message sent by the HHIC. We sincerely hope that gas fitters across the UK take notice and do the right thing by their
